Planetarium Star Projector
The planetarium
projector projects approximately 4,000 stars on the inside of a dome ceiling
30 feet (9.3 meters) in diameter. The projector, made by the Minolta Camera
Company, shows the motions of the naked eye planets and Moon with great
precision. The night sky is supplemented with a bank of special effects
projectors to simulate meteors,
eclipses, and star clusters. |

A refurbishment of the planetarium was
completed in late 1999, including new theater seats, new special effects projectors, an
overhaul of the star projector and a new automation system.
The planetarium also shows images of astronomical objects through a
computer-controlled video projection system (shown in the picture to the
left) that includes videodisc, VCR, and computer graphics. |

Hallway
The hallway outside the
planetarium has scale models of the planets. The planets were formerly housed at
Chicago's Adler Planetarium. The solar system models were donated to the Waubonsie
Planetarium when Adler redesigned its planet exhibit. |
