The scouting experience for both
boys and girls includes studying the sky. The WVHS Planetarium offers
program for scout groups to learn about the stars. These programs are
different than field trip programs. There are two types of programs for
scouts; Sky Map programs and Workshop programs. (see below for details) |

Sky
Map Program |
|
The Sky Map Program is a general program for boy and girl scouts of all
ages. The program includes how the sky works, how to read a star map,
and where to locate visible planets. Scouts will practice using star
maps in the planetarium, and take them home to use in their own
backyard. The main goal of this program is help guide scouts through the
night sky. The program lasts approximately 45 minutes. Admission
is $1 per scout and $2 per adult. Reservations are required. The
following schedule is for Sky Map Programs: |

Scout Workshops |
|
Workshops are created to fulfill certain requirements for scouting
achievements. It is recommended that scouts attend the Sky Map Program
before participating in a Workshop. This is to familiarize scouts with
the sky, and also cut down on the length of the workshops (some
requirements are addressed in the Sky Map Programs).
Reservations are
required. A
minimum of 10 scouts are required to schedule a workshop, and is limited
to 20 scouts. (Siblings participating in activities need to be included
as a scout.) Admission is $5 per scout and adults are free. At least 1
adult per 5 scouts is required to be present at a workshop.
A date must be arranged with the
planetarium's director (see Scout
Reservations).
